ACTOR JOAQUIN PHOENIX THANKS THE GOLDEN GLOBES FOR SERVING
A PLANT-BASED MENU
Actor Joaquin Phoenix walked on stage to accept his award for the Best Actor in a motion picture drama for "Joker" a comic book film, where he played a villian and began his acceptance speech with praise to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) in support of their decision to serve a Plant Based Menu.

Phoenix said:
"First, I'd like to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press for recognizing and acknowledging the link between animal agriculture and climate change," Phoenix said. "It's a very bold move making tonight plant-based, and it really sends a powerful message."
Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced this year the menu would be vegan and Executive Chef Matthew Morgan at the Beverly Hilton said: “As long term partners of the HFPA, we are pleased to support their decision to offer an entirely plant-based menu for the 77th Annual Golden Globe Awards. Our talented culinary team is excited to create dynamic plant-based offerings,” Morgan said in a statement.
The 100% vegan menu included a chilled golden beet soup for the appetizer and a main course of king oyster mushrooms cooked and presented to resemble scallops, with wild-mushroom risotto, roasted baby purple and green brussels sprouts, globe carrots and pea tendrils, according to the hollywood reporter.

HFPA president Lorenzo Soria posted to facebook:
“Over the holidays, we took time to reflect on the last year and began thinking about the new year and the decade ahead. The climate crisis is impossible to ignore and after speaking with our peers, and friends in the community, we felt challenged to do better. The decision to serve an entirely plant-based meal was embraced by our partners at the Beverly Hilton, and represents a small step in response to a big problem.
By partnering with Icelandic Glacial to hydrate guests via glass bottles, eliminating single-use plastic, and serving a 100% plant-based meal, we’re hoping to raise awareness around small changes that can have a greater impact. We know Awards shows have a long way to go, and we all can do better.”
